The Golden State Valkyries play again on Saturday as they host the Seattle Storm after defeating them twice on the road earlier this season. Their opponents have had a rebuilding season that has left them at the bottom of the standings even though the talent of their young players is evident. It will be tough for the Valkyries to play again so quickly with most of their players coming off of a break, but it is another game with importance for playoff seeding. The game will be broadcast nationally on Amazon Prime with no separate local broadcast.
The Valkyries
The initial injury report was anticipated again ahead of this game after players were rested yesterday. It starts at the same point as yesterday with both Janelle Salaun and Gabby Williams listed as out already. Cecilia Zandalasini is listed as questionable again, but this time with an illness instead of the reconditioning reason as was the case before the last game. The expectation should be a similar rotation to the last game with the double-post lineup a definite possibility with smallball lineups being tougher against the Storm.
The Opposition
Seattle returned from the World Cup break on Thursday when they hosted the Las Vegas Aces, losing decisively for a record of 5-21 since last hosting the Valkyries. They have made one roster move in that time, filling their vacant developmental player spot with guard Jaylyn Sherrod, making them the third team that she has been with this season.
Katie Lou Samuelson suffered a season-ending injury during the break and Ezi Magbegor suffered a serious injury at the World Cup. Jordan Horston also got hurt during the stoppage and has been ruled out of this game. Zia Cooke exited their last game with an injury and is also listed as out for this game. Jade Melbourne missed the end of the World Cup and Seattle’s first game back, but she is no longer listed on the injury report for this game.
