Sunday was the last day of the tournament with the two games for medals. After Spain defeated Germany to win the bronze medal, the stage was set for the championship game. France had the lead early as they were trying to avenge the loss from the Olympic final two years ago. The United States dominated the second half though and won their fifth straight World Cup by a 97-79 margin.
Gabby Williams had 20 points and a game-high 7 assists in 32 minutes and Janelle Salaun had 7 points in 23 minutes. It was a big tournament for Williams as the team leader on a number of levels while Salaun continued to grow into a bigger role. Carla Leite had 5 points in 10 minutes and Migna Toure had 3 points in 15 minutes. The 20 WNBA players in this game now head back to their teams and Natalie Nakase returns with a gold medal as an assistant coach.
