Date, Time, and Location: Friday, August 21st, 4:30pm, Wintrust Arena (Chicago)
Broadcast Information: ION (split national), WNBA League Pass (streaming)
The Golden State Valkyries start a five-game road trip on Friday when they visit Chicago to end their regular season series with the Sky. The Valkyries won the last meeting in San Francisco, but their opponents still have not been eliminated from playoff contention even though their odds are slim. Like other Friday games, this will be shown on ION, but it shares the timeslot with another game and is not the primary game, meaning that it will be shown in a limited number of markets. Some providers show all ION games, putting secondary games on supplemental channels, while the game is also available on WNBA League Pass.
The Valkyries
It is a clean initial injury report for the Valkyries, which is good news after Kaila Charles had to exit late in the last game. It is unlikely that Golden State will spend as much time in smallball lineups in this game so having Kiah Stokes back will be a big help after she missed the last meeting. Janelle Salaun looks to be back at her best too after not being available either that day. The scheduling this year means that this is the only trip for Gabby Williams this season to the place where she started her career.
The Opposition
Chicago has won their last two games since losing in San Francisco, last playing on Tuesday when they defeated New York at home. DiJonai Carrington is listed as out on their initial injury report and Aicha Coulibaly is questionable after not playing in the last game. Skylar Diggins remains out with a long-term injury, but they do have Sydney Taylor back as she was able to play some minutes in their last game. The Sky have made one roster move recently, signing Morgan Maly to a developmental spot after they could not match Phoenix’s offer to Maddy Westbeld.
