Covering the Golden State Valkyries and Bay Area Women's Professional Basketball

Game Preview: 2026 Regular Season Game 24 vs Connecticut Sun

Date, Time, and Location: Friday, July 10th, 4:30pm, Mohegan Sun Arena (Uncasville)
Broadcast Information: ION (split national), WNBA League Pass (streaming)

The Golden State Valkyries continue their road trip on Friday, visiting the Connecticut Sun before getting four days without a game. Their opponents have continued to struggle early in the season and sit at the bottom of the standings. The earlier meeting between the teams in San Francisco had the biggest margin of victory of any game for the Valkyries this year. As with other Friday games, the broadcast will be on ION and this was not chosen as the primary broadcast with Dallas-Toronto picked instead. Those who do not get the game through ION can watch the stream on WNBA League Pass instead.

The Valkyries

The main concern after the last game was Gabby Williams exiting the game in the second half after a fall. She is listed as questionable on the initial injury report with a back contusion and it would certainly make sense to rest her for this game with a few extra days before the next game. It would be a difficult decision on who should be added to the starting lineup with the bench unit playing so well together and the rotation getting firmed up in recently. The previous matchup between the teams featured the WNBA debuts for Juste Jocyte and Ashten Prechtel.

The Opposition

Connecticut is still in last place, but they have picked up their share of wins recently and enter the game having won three out of five games with the two losses being quite narrow. They just finished a home-and-home series with Minnesota, winning on the road on Monday before losing at home on Wednesday, an impressive win even with injuries affecting player availability.

Leila Lacan had not joined the team yet for the game in San Francisco and has since returned to grab her spot in the starting lineup. To make room for her arrival, the Sun waived Hailey Van Lith, but they were able to sign her back to their other developmental player spot. Brittney Griner missed the game due to injury and is set to miss this game as well with a different injury. Saniya Rivers and Aneesah Morrow, the two players who played the most minutes in that game, are also listed as out on the initial injury report.
