Game Preview: Regular Season Game 31 vs Connecticut Sun

Date, Time, Location: Monday, August 11th, 7:00pm PDT, Chase Center
Broadcast Information: KPYX (Bay Area), NBC Sports Boston (opposition’s home market), WNBA League Pass (outside of teams’ local markets), KGMZ (radio)

The Golden State Valkyries finish their homestand against the Connecticut Sun on Monday. They will be wary of their opponents despite the Sun being in last place as the previous meeting in Uncasville was a decisive Connecticut win. The game is also slated to have a special event that seems almost certain to be the unveiling of a new mascot, so the team will not want to spoil that occasion either. This game is not scheduled to be broadcast on local television in the Sacramento era.

The Valkyries

After a big victory on Sunday, the Valkyries will be looking to carry momentum into a stretch in which they will play every other day for six games in total. The good news continues to be no further injuries so the team will have eleven players available again. Kaila Charles was the only player to not appear in the last meeting as Kayla Thornton and Monique Billings were both injured before that game.

The Opposition

Since the win over the Valkyries two weeks ago, the Sun have defeated the New York Liberty, but also lost five games. The latest of those was just played as they will be heading to San Francisco for the back end of a back-to-back having lost a fairly close game in Las Vegas. There has been one change for Connecticut since the last meeting as they made the last trade before this season’s deadline, sending Jacy Sheldon to the Washington Mystics in exchange for Aaliyah Edwards to give themselves another young post option and she played 17 minutes in her debut.
