WPBA Week 3 Recap

Riptide 80 Titans 72

The first game of a full Saturday was a thrilling one even though it was between winless teams as the Riptide trailed for most of the game and looked set to endure another tough loss, but they had an excellent fourth quarter to grab the lead and the 80-72 win. The victors were led by Sandra Ikeora while Zakyia Mahoney had a successful debut after a midweek trade. Christy Ojide Boiko made her debut for the Titans after just finishing her college career at Academy of Art.

Phoenix 86 Royals 76

The next game was between undefeated teams and the Phoenix took the lead early and cruised to an 86-76 win. Rookie Anya Choice returned to her home area after her college career at UC Santa Barbara and made an appearance for the Phoenix. Salimatou Kourouma had a second straight excellent game for the Royals, which got debuts from Alaren Newell and international signing Miyu Mizukawa.

Blaze 84 Reign 61

The Blaze certainly looked strong, grabbing control early on their way to an 84-61 win. Reshanda Gray was the debutant with WNBA experience for this week and made an immediate impact in the win as Brooke Demetre, who was previously announced as signing, also made her debut after her time in college. Deja Jackson moved to the Reign this week, but they are still looking for their first win.

Wolves 95 Swish 92

The last game of the day ended up being the most exciting as the Wolves trailed most of the game and then made a push in the second half to get the 95-92 win. Rebecca Harris and Michelle Onyiah proved to be the key combination for the Wolves again as Vivian Woo, who played overseas for the first time after playing in this league previously, made her season debut. Jada Lewis and Alexsis Guidry Brown led the Swish, which got Kam Shelley in this week’s trade.
