Half of the groups were in action on Friday as teams were looking to advance to the next round before the final set of games. These groups will finish play on Sunday as the quarterfinal matchups on Wednesday will be set and the remaining teams will travel to Greece. The other two groups conclude play on Saturday with their quarterfinals set for Tuesday.
Great Britain
After losing their first game, Great Britain knew that a win would greatly help their chances of advancing and they took the lead after the first quarter. The team had already lost twice to Sweden in qualifying as their opponents have had some recent success, but missed the last tournament. That lead was wiped out by halftime and then they lost 75-66. Temi Fagbenle had 11 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks as she played all but 76 seconds.
Both longtime Bay Area residents also played as former Stanford player Hannah Jump, representing her birth country, had 4 points in 19 minutes, and Kirsty Brown played 6 minutes. Great Britain will know whether they still have a chance to advance by the time their game is played on Sunday. If Sweden defeats Spain, they Great Britain is eliminated, but if Spain wins, then they will need a big win over Germany to prevail in a tiebreaker.

Belgium
By the time Belgium tipped off at the end of the day, they knew that a win would mean that they were going to advance. Their opponent was Montenegro, which has qualified regularly to this tournament, but has not been a real medal contender and is not at full strength this year.
After a dominant first quarter, the team coasted to an 83-57 win, sending themselves through with hosts Czechia. Julie Vanloo had 8 points, 6 rebounds, and a game-high 7 assists in 26 minutes. Kyara Linskens had game highs of 25 points and 8 rebounds in 26 minutes. Belgium and Czechia advance, but will play each other for the top spot in the group and for bracket placement on the final day.
