Golden State Valkyries players started joining their national teams in the final week of preparations before the tournament. A few more exhibition games were played and then teams made their way to the countries hosting the group stages before opening games coming up on Wednesday and Thursday.
The group stage is three games for each team with the top two teams in each group advancing and the other two teams having their tournaments end. The remaining teams will all head to Greece for the final round. Since the top five teams other than Germany and Czechia will advance to the next round of World Cup qualifying, each quarterfinalist will play three games to create a definitive set of final standings. The winner of the tournament automatically qualifies for the World Cup alongside hosts Germany.
Italy
Cecilia Zandalasini joined Italy’s team in time for a pair of exhibitions on the road in Czechia. Wednesday’s game did not have fans or live stats, but Italy reported a 68-67 win with 2 points from Zandalasini. They hosted Montenegro on Friday in another game without fans of live stats and reported a 79-41 with 10 points from Zandalasini.
