The Golden State Valkyries have a quick turnaround today, facing the Indiana Fever with a tipoff 24 hours after the start of their last game. Both teams sit in the last two playoff spots right now and are both looking to move closer to clinching while climbing the standings is still possible. Before yesterday’s game the Valkyries announced that they had added a local broadcast affiliate in the Monterey Bay area so this game will also be available there on KION.

The Valkyries

There was finally positive injury news before the last game as Carla Leite returned, allowing Golden State to at least be at the maximum number of players given their current player availability. It remains to be seen if anyone else will be able to return or if Bree Hall might get the chance to face the team that drafted her. Wins in the previous two meetings mean that the Valkyries would have the tiebreaker advantage against the Fever if the two teams are tied with each other in the standings at the end of the season, but this is a big game with the teams currently even in the loss column with Indiana having played one more game.

The Opposition

The Fever played last played on Friday, starting their road trip with a win over the Los Angeles Sparks, helping out the Valkyries too for the playoffs. That makes it two wins in a row for Indiana, which has an 11-8 record now since losing to the Valkyries at home back in early July. The team has been dealing with a ton of injuries and has been signing players to fill those spots. That includes two former Valkyries as they have brought in Chloe Bibby and Aerial Powers, but their point guard absences in particular have had them signing veterans Odyssey Sims and Shey Peddy to give them options in the backcourt. Sims in particular is coming off of two excellent games in wins,

Indiana has quite a long injury report for this game too. Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald both suffered season-ending injuries in the same game earlier this month. Wing Sophie Cunningham is also out for the season now too. The team has been rather evasive about when Caitlin Clark will be able to return for a variety of reasons, but she has not played in a game since mid-July. Chloe Bibby may not get the chance to face her former team having missed the last four games.
