WPBA All Star Game Recap

The league’s All Star festivities were held on Friday with a ton of local celebrities being involved in addition to having the main game. Even before the WPBA players took the floor, youth players were able to be involved in a Rising Stars game. The regular season resumes with a full set of games on Saturday.

The 3 point competition was held before the game with one representative from each team and Isabella Mauricio of the Blaze won. The field included Anya Choice from the Phoenix, Abigail Cooper from the Riptide, Nicol Berry from the Swish, Tynesha Parnell from the Wolves, Salimatou Kourouma from the Royals, Brooke Donnelly from the Titans, and Deja Jackson from the Reign.

The game itself involved team captains Erica McCall and Rebecca Harris picking squads beforehand and the selections ended up producing an even matchup that led to a competitive game throughout. Team Harris built a lead, but then had to make one last run to get the 74-73 win.

Reserves were chosen for each team in the event of absences. Destiny Samuel was called in to fill in for Kaylin Randhawa of the Blaze on Team Harris. Isabella Mauricio was also a standby who was set to participate anyway in the 3 point competition. Myah Pace of the Blaze, Zhane Duckett of the Titans, and Maddison Glass of the Wolves were the other reserves for the team.

None of the reserve players named for Team McCall ended up needing to play. Zakiya Mahoney and Alexsis Guidry Brown of the Swish, Destiny Jackson and Brandy Huffhines of the Titans, and Jolene Armendariz of the Riptide were the players who could have filled in if necessary.
