Where are the Valkyries? EuroBasket Day 4 Edition

It was the last day of the group stage for two of the four groups at EuroBasket on Saturday. All of the Valkyries players playing today already knew that they would be playing in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, but were going to find out who they would be playing next.

France

The last game for France was against Switzerland, which was playing in this tournament for the first time in the modern era. They had already secured the top spot in the group and their opponents were already eliminated so both teams played all of their players as France breezed to the 111-37 win. Janelle Salaun led all scorers with 23 points in just 18 minutes. Iliana Rupert had 6 points and 6 rebounds in 16 minutes and Migna Toure had 2 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals in 18 minutes.

Italy vs Lithuania

This game closed the day as the winner would play Turkey in the quarterfinals while the loser would play France. Italy took the lead early and then held off Lithuania’s charge in the second half for a 65-51 win. Cecilia Zandalasini led all scorers with 22 points and led her team with 9 rebounds in 29 minutes. Juste Jocyte led her team with 15 points and also had 4 rebounds in 31 minutes.
